Bill Spencer
by Natalie B.
On Tuesday, February 28 Bill Spencer came into our classroom. He owns three businesses. He talked a lot about his business and what it takes to own a business. He also talked a little about his childhood. He told us that he went to the U of O and several other colleges. Later on he had five kids. One was a valedictorian.
At the age seven Bill was already starting to be a businessman by selling vegetables that he grew with his sister out of the back of a truck. He has one older brother, one older sister, and on younger sister. His mom was a mail lady and his dad was a mill worker. He wanted to become a businessman. When he read a book about careers, he decided he wanted to become a businessman. He said “I loved to read. I would read two or three books a day in the summer.”
When he was 27 years old he had the opportunity to own a business. He decided he was going to own a business in Creswell because he said, “I wanted to be the big fish in the small pond.”
Today he partially owns three businesses. He owns a gas station, The Tire Factory, and a place to fill up with diesel. He also had the honor of being the C.E.O of the Tire Factory for two years. He said he did not even apply, they just asked him to and it was such an honor. He had never though that would have happened to him when he was younger.
It was great to have Bill come in and tell us about his work and about what it is like to own a business and everything that you have to do.
