University of Oregon Sustainability and Recycling Coordinator Karyn Kaplan and Student recycler and current UO student Molly visited room 22 on December 12, 2011. Karyn and Molly came in and talked about their lives and how dedicated they are to teaching people the importance of taking care of the earth. The U of O recycling program has one of the premier recycling and sustainability programs in the country. They have almost 60 student recyclers, a bike pickup recycling program, composting programs, zero waste events, zero waste U of O football games, and more. Karyn and Molly brought stainless steel water bottles for each student to stress the importance of reusing items instead of buying and throwing away a plastic water bottle every time you want some water. They also gave each student a recycling hat, pins, stickers, a reusable chico bag and an amazing reusable spoon, fork, knife device. Thanks for everything Karyn.
Chandra LeGue, Old Growth Campaign Coordinator for Oregon Wild came in to room 22 to discuss current and historic forest management practices, forest thinning, diverse habitats, and her life.
