Plot
Initiating Conflict – Mr. Hoppy’s secret love of Mrs. Silver is revealed
Rising Action – Mr. Hoppy creates and carries his plan to win Mrs. Silver’s love. He buys 140 tortoises and week-by-week he exchanges one tortoise for another in order to make “Alfie” grow larger.
After eight weeks of switching out tortoises “Alfie” is too big to fit in his house. Mr. Hoppy then switches out the 8th week “Alfie” for the ninth week “Alfie” which is just a little bit smaller. Mrs. Silver is so excited about her tortoise being bigger but still small enough to fit in his house that she invites Mr. Hoppy down to her apartment.
Climax – Mr. Hoppy asks Mrs. Silver to marry him and she says, “Yes, I thought you’d never get around to asking.”
Falling Action – Mr. Hoppy returns all of the extra tortoises to the pet shop for nothing.
Resolution - Mr. Hoppy and Mrs. Silver get married. Mrs. Silver becomes Mrs. Hoppy.
