Mr. Hoppy
Mr. Hoppy is the main character in the story Esio Trot. He lives in an apartment (Flat) above Mrs. Silver, another main character. Mr. Hoppy is sneaky, creepy, and creative. His love of Mrs. Silver, his downstairs neighbor makes him do some not so honest actions in order to earn her love. He is short, wears glasses, and has a bald spot. He is also kind, smart, happy and lonely.
Mrs. Silver
Mrs. Silver is a major character in this story. She is very friendly. She loves her pet tortoise, Alfie. She is a widow and lives alone in an apartment below Mr. Hoppy. She has lots of curly hair, wears jewelry, is taller than Mr. Hoppy and she always wears a dress with an apron. She is gullible (easily tricked).
Alfie
Alfie is a tortoise that doesn’t talk. He likes lettuce, cabbage, tomato, and celery. He hibernates all winter on Mrs. Silver’s balcony. He has a little doghouse that he lives in. He weighs 13 oz. He has dark marks on his shell. Towards the end of the story Alfie is removed from Mrs. Silver’s balcony by Mr. Hoppy. A little girl named Roberta Squibb adopts him. She has Alfie for over 30 years.
